Florence, Or - Green looks really good on you

Susan Henderson June 8, 2018

Although they say it rains all the time on the Oregon coast, today was our first day to experience it. While others may frown when they see the cloudy skies, we are smiling. We lived 30+ years in the desert of Northern Nevada, so for us a "rain day" is a special treat. Plus it allows me a day to play a little catch up on my writing.

From the beach to old growth forests, our days have been filled exploring since we arrived here 10 days ago. We are once again at a Thousand Trails park, South Jetty RV Resort. The park, while older, is really beautiful. Every space has a lot of room between you and your neighbor, and while our Verizon hasn't worked especially fast for a hotspot, the wifi up at the clubhouse works well. And yes, I do realize it must rain here A LOT, it is so very green and lush. We originally parked within a "old growth tree cave", but moved after 2 days to a bright sunny spot. Bob and I both need the morning sunshine coming in through the big front window.

Agate hunting has become a little bit of an obsession. You only have to find one, to want to find twenty....then thirty. We have found two beaches so far that have been plentiful, and an amazing intertidal area at Strawberry Hill where I rolled up my shorts and waded into the water to catch a pic of the starfish as the waves washed over them, and me. Seals sunbathing out on the rocks only added to the beauty of the day.

We have concentrated most our exploring to the north of us. South of us we would find Coos Bay, but we will save that for another trip when we can start right at the California/Oregon border. Another few days here and then we will head north for Seaside.

Points to remember;
Bob's Creek - Agate hunting
Strawberry Hill - Agate hunting
Cape Perpetua - Hiking - Gwynn's Creek/Cooks Ridge WONDERFUL hike through the old growth (national park pass works here)
Hobbit Trail - beautiful hike to beach in one direction, to Heceta lighthouse the other
Saturday Market - pico de gallo at one of the stands so good we went back twice
Tuesday afternoon Farmers Market - small but great organic produce
Wonderful library - hit it on their "book sale" day, whole bag full for 5.00!!!
South Jetty Dunes - right down the road from the TT, nice hike over the dunes down to the beach, walked for miles and didn't see a soul. (national park pass works here)
Public House - Old town - nice happy hour
