We spent the last few weeks on the northern coast of Oregon tucked into a little town called Seaside. About 15 miles southwest from Astoria and the mouth of the Columbia River, and 8 miles north of Cannon Beach. Once again I felt like I had found a small town that I could settle down in. It wasn't just the weather that was so perfect, but that certainly did help. It was the "walkability" of all the small neighborhood blocks that edged the "Promenade", a three mile pathway along the ocean. We spent our days biking and wandering the area until the day arrived when it was time to head to Portland to pick up the grands.
One of the reasons I have loved writing this blog for the last 10+ years is having the ability to look back at our memories. I find myself spending hours some days re-reading the escapades of our life when we owned the garden center and the first years of our travels. All the wonderful friends we have made along the way are still front and center in my mind.
Now that we are lucky enough to have grands in our lives I find it even more important to try and document our days, especially with them. I hope that they can look back on these "pages" someday when they are older and see how very much we loved having them with us, and how they kept us young, trying to keep up with them.
Cash celebrated his 11th birthday here. There was plenty of time and freedom for fort building and trail exploring right from camp. We even managed to throw in some great history lessons with a visit to Fort Clatsop and the Lewis and Clark monument. We searched tide pools at Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach and watched as the sun set into the Pacific. A wonderful way to start this summer vacation with them.
